Welcome to Dave Crockett Campground

Restuarant

As you can see by the rustic building this campground has old time charm.  Meals served in the restaurant, days and times vary depending on the occasions and number of guests in the campground.  The campground owners are also the chefs.  They never let you walk away hungry.

Guest cabins throughout the park.  The double cabins have a walk through so you can rent either one or both for you relaxing vacation.

Davy Crockett Campground is very charming.  Well manicured with staff always working to improve the campground.

There is entertainment on the weekends, activities for kids, friendly staff.  We really enjoyed our stay.

2017 Kandiohi County Park East, Kandiohi County, Lake Lilian, MN

Another visit to Kandiohi County Park East (formerly Park 2).  The update is that the RV sites are all paved.  Water and electric at every site along with a picnic table and fire ring.    A dump station is located near entrance of the park.

Kandiohi County Park East

We found the RV park to once again to be very well-maintained.  Spaces are of average size.  We were happy to see the paved lots.

Several public restrooms and shower facilities are kept clean and maintained.  Docks for fishing, boat launch, store well-stocked for those items you forgot.

Staff of friendly and very helpful.

A very quiet and enjoyable stay.

2017 R & R Campground, Mitchell SD

The R&R campground is well maintained.  Lots are gravel, pull-through sites with full hook-up.  Average space between lots.

We only stayed one night at this campground, but found it to be very nice.  The lot space was comfortable and the grounds were well maintained. Sites are mostly gravel with a few cemented.

Fire rings and picnic tables at each site.  The outdoor heated pool is well-maintained.

Staff was friendly and helpful.  Well equipped store in the front office too include necessary camping items and also souvenirs.

The one sight we wanted to see is the Corn Palace.   All the art work and wall murals are made from corn.  The art work on the exterior of the building is changed every year.  The interior is refreshed every 10 years.  As the corn and stalks dry out spaces begin to show which have to be redone.

Making the Bed

We have an Ace RV with a King bed.  It has some room to walk around but the bed is still difficult to make since you can’t reach to the top of the bed.  The mattresses in RV’s are light, so what we have started doing is to pulling the mattress away from the headboard so we can make the top part of the bed first.  We then slide the mattress back into place and finish putting on the fitted sheets. Bed-making made simple, at least for us.

Flag Status

Flag
Flag

As an Army Veteran, I get very disheartened when I drive into an RV park and the American flag is flying proudly but is faded and frayed.  There is no excuse to fly the United States flag in that condition.  Ten Pin, a Navy Veteran and I have been making such parks aware that they need to replace their flags when they are in such horrible condition.  If you go to a park with worn flags, make sure to let the staff know that the flag should be replaced.

2017 LA-Z Acres RV Park Ohio

Entering into the park we noticed how closed the RV’s were.  The road into the park was rough and parking our RV was a challenge.     Ten Pin had his camper parked right behind us.  Our car hauler along with Ten Pins tow dolly were also crammed into the tiny space.

Close sites
Close sites
Our compact campsite with our trailers.

Because the sites were so uneven, we were unable to level it so we had to park it where the picnic table was literally right outside out front door.  We couldn’t move the table  because it was over a large cement cover.

The sites were extremely close together, back to back and side to side.  It seemed that anywhere they found room to make another space, that’s what they did.

Close Spaces for RV’s

Tight Spaces
Tight Spaces

Many RV sites had litter around them, the grass not mowed and sites were not level by no means. Many residents were long term or permanent which meant the site maintenance was their responsibility.

The maintenance shed had all sorts of clutter around it.

Everyone seemed to have a golf cart and they were driven at all hours.    There was no quiet time enforced.  Also the leash law for pets and the 10 m.p.h. speed limit while driving through the park was not enforced.

The one thing we did enjoy was the live band which they had on Saturday night. The golf carts  gathered for the Saturday night live concert.  Quite a big gathering to hear the live band.

2017 Dale Hollow Dam RV Campsite TN

This is another of the Corps of Engineers parks.  Again we found this COE RV park very well kept, spacious, level lots.

Huge lots

The above  photo like an empty lot but actually our 30 foot RV is parked on the right.  Lots are gravel and level.  The only complaint is the fine gravel in each lot which is easily dragged into the RV,  but I do have a broom.

If you want to take in a game of golf, there is a fabulous course in the near Dale Hollow Dam State Park in Kentucky.  This was Gypsy’s and TenPins first ever time on a golf course.  We were told it was one of the most difficult courses to start on.

Bird Survives
Bird Survives

Not sure what kind of bird this is but when I heard a loud thump from within the RV I went outside to investigate.  On the ground I found this bird which had ran into the window.  I wasn’t sure if it was alive.  I picked it up and felt it move slightly.  I held it gently, talked to it, and pet the top of its head.  It seemed to be slowly coming around.  I set it in on the ground tucked in near a tree.  I checked on it several times and it was still where I set it.  The fourth time I checked on it, the bird had flown away.  Gypsy’s proudest moment.

This park is very well kept up, and new things are constantly being added to make it more appealing.  Full hook-ups.  The few gravel pads at the park are being replaced with cement pads.  Picnic tables are on cement pads at each site.    Short or long-term stays available.

Golf courses are nearby.  And yes, I did take up golf.  Lonestar and I went to Osceola Golf Course.  They have a driving range, putting green, and sand traps to practice on.  That’s where I will be until I learn how to hit the ball.  The Golf Course also offers a bar and restaurant with friendly staff and good food.

Community Garden

Five Flags RV Park
Five Flags RV Park

The attribute I enjoyed was the community garden.  I miss having a garden and I can get in and get my hands dirty weeding and planting.  During our stay at Five Flags, I planted marigolds around the exterior of the garden and weeded it.  Anyone can plant what they like and anything that grows is for the park patrons to use, whether they are staying for a short time or extended stay.  Chives, lettuce, cabbage, onions, rosemary, oregano, etc.  I used some chives in a roast.  Nothing better than fresh veggies and herbs.

If you want bonfires, you need to have a covered fire pit which can be purchased at many stores or on line.  Also the park does not have public restrooms or showers.

Five Flags RV Park has an friendly staff and they are very helpful.   The park offers pull-through and back-in sites.  We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely put it on our list of parks to revisit.

2017 Cedron Creek Lake Whitney

A short 2 day  trip to Lake Whitney.  We were going to look at a tow dolly.  The seller happened to live near the Corp of Engineers park at Cedron Creek Lake Whitney.   The park is well kept with gravel pads for your RV’s, water and electric.  A dump station is available.  There are also tent sites, some of which have water hook ups.

2017 Benbrook Lake

It is not to difficult to decide to go camping when you hear a beautiful weather forecast.  Besides our puppy Nala turned one year old on the 5th of February so we decided to try another Corp Of Engineer Park.  Holiday Park on Benbrook Lake offers cement pads, covered picnic areas, and a fire ring.  Water and electric provided at RV sites.

Can never beat the gorgeous sunrise.  What a great start to a great day.

Benbrook Lake was quite low, I’d guess at least 10 feet.  Tree stumps everywhere.  Boaters beware.  Once the water is up to its normal levels, navigating a boat through the narrow passages could be quite tricky.

We really enjoyed ourselves at Benbrook Lake.  Although it wasn’t as picturesque as other parks we have been to, we always love being outdoors.
